Diarado

Diarado continues to dominate the sport horse world with an extraordinary influence as both a top performer and elite sire. In 2021, he achieved the rare distinction of being named the USEF Leading Hunter Sire and Leading Jumper Sire, a testament to his incredible versatility and the consistent excellence of his offspring.

Currently ranked among the world’s top ten sires by the WBFSH, Diarado is the youngest stallion featured in both the Show Jumping (10th) and Eventing (2nd) rankings. This remarkable status is driven by a long list of international performers that carry his stamp of talent and scope. His standout progeny includes:

  • Don Diarado (ridden by Maurice Tebbel): WEG Team Bronze Medalist, second in the Grand Prix of Prague, and German Championship silver medalist.

  • Dicas (Margie Goldstein-Engle, USA): Victories in the Grand Prix of Deauville and Traverse City.

  • Donatello (Ashlee Bond, ISR): Grand Prix winner in Wellington, USA.

  • Squirt Gun (Paul O’Shea, IRL): Nations Cup winner in Wellington.

  • Ezra van W (Giampiero Garofalo, ITA): Grand Prix winner in Valencia.

Other notable competitors like Dourades, Dialetto PS, Diarindo Z, Emerette, and Diachacca Rouge further reinforce Diarado’s growing legacy. In Germany alone, his offspring have earned nearly €1.7 million in prize money.

A Foundation Sire of the Future

With a German FN Breeding Value Index (BVI) of 161, Diarado is ranked among the top 1% of all German jumping sires. He has not only sired elite athletes but has also laid the foundation for a new dynasty in international show jumping breeding. In 2019, he reached 6th place on the WBFSH Eventing Sire rankings, and as early as 2013, he was leading young horse performance tests with a remarkable BVI of 169.

Even in dressage breeding, Diarado scores above average, showcasing his impressive all-around influence.

Progeny That Leave a Mark

Diarado’s success in the breeding shed is matched by the accolades of his progeny in sport and licensing arenas:

  • Diaron: Bundeschampion for six-year-old jumpers and winner of €1.3 million in prize money.

  • De Quidam: OS Champion Stallion at the 2013 Oldenburg Stallion Days in Vechta.

  • Diarado’s Boy: I-a Main Premium winner.

  • Diacontinus: Stallion performance test winner.

  • Dinken: Holstein Regional Champion.

  • Dialido: German Sport Horse Show Jumping winner.

  • Delta One and a Hanoverian Premium Stallion also add to the list of standout sons.

In total, over 50 licensed sons of Diarado are registered in Germany, many of whom have made names for themselves across the globe.

Among his daughters, the OS Champion Mare Jurwina, Dornröschen (Champion Mare of the Franz-Strahl-Schäfer show), and Edwina (dam of Holstein Champion Stallion Cadilo) stand out as key contributors to the next generation of elite horses.

A Legacy Built on Talent and Intelligence

Diarado’s own career began with a bang—he was the Licensing Champion in Holstein in 2007 and won the stallion performance test in Schlieckau in 2008 with dream scores, including:

  • 10.0 for free-jumping

  • 9.5 for canter and rideability

  • 9.75 for jumping a full course

  • 9.3 overall for jumping ability

He continued to shine in young horse classes, winning several competitions including the Bundeschampionate qualifier with a 9.3, and secured a bronze medal in the final under rider Bastian Freese. Diarado has since competed successfully up to M and S level, proving that his performance matches his pedigree.

With his elegant style, exceptional jumping mechanics, cat-like agility, and modern mind, Diarado is more than a sire—he is a cornerstone of the sport horse world and a game-changer for breeders around the globe.
